Soft robotic grippers get touchy-feely


Scientists have invested a soft automaton with sensitivity resembling the human sense of bit.

A team light-emitting diode by Henry M. Robert Wood and Jennifer Lewis at university in Cambridge, Massachusetts, used 3D printing to form rubber robotic fingers with feedback sensors composed of a semiconductive gel. once the researchers manipulated the fingers, the sensors provided knowledge on every finger’s orientation, and detected contact with different surfaces.

The team combined 3 fingers to make a soft hand that would grip a ball and supply feedback on its temperature and texture. knowledge captured by the soft robotic gripper may well be helpful for sanctionative precise management of future soft robots that have a grieve their surroundings.
